Katie Lefave of Brockville passed away at Brockville General Hospital Garden Street Site in The Palliative Care Unit on Saturday March 2nd 2019 at the age of 95. She was the oldest living graduate Registered Nurse from Saint Vincent de Paul Hospital (1946). Katie was predeceased by her loving husband, Francis Alexander Lefave. She was a loving mother to Donna Frew and her husband Alex of Deep River, Christine Marsala and her husband Jack of Ottawa and Stephen and his wife Debbie of Brockville. Loving grandmother to Katrina, Seamus, Serena, Julie, Brendan, Charlie, Brittany and Brianne. Proud loving great grandmother of Cohen, Hannah, Violet, Smith, Kylie, Madison, Levi and Everett.

Katie was all of our joy and inspiration; a wise and loving presence in our family. Often referred to as “Katiebird”, she will always be remembered in the kitchen preparing family meals and baking her famous pies, in her flower gardens, and writing thank you notes and letters. Katie loved swimming, playing cards, travelling and her wonderful collection of hats, but most of all her love was expressed for God and her family. She will be sadly missed by her parish at Saint Francis Xavier and her loved ones.

Family will receive relatives and friends at The Irvine Funeral Home, 4 James Street East, Brockville on Friday May 17th from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. A funeral mass will be celebrated in St. Francis Xavier Church, 66 Church Street, Brockville on Saturday May 18th at 10am, with interment to follow at St. Francis Xavier Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Katie’s memory to the Brockville and District Hospital Foundation, Palliative Care Unit. The family would like to thank the Emergency Department and the doctors and nurses at the Brockville General Hospital and at the Palliative Care Unit for the wonderful care provided to Katie. Dear Donna, Christine and Stephen, My heart sank when I learned of the death of your mom. I remember so many times at your home and both your mom and dad were delights to know. They always made you feel welcome and special. In later years, I would often run into them on their walks along King Street and catch up on the three of you ... treasured memories for sure. With heartfelt sorrow Paddy (Gaffney) Brayton

IT's amazing when I think back to my childhood growing up in Brockville of how many times I can remember her always interested in us kids in the neighbourhood. She always sponsored me for Swim-a-thon, bought Girl Guide cookies and Oranges every year for as many kids as she could. I can remember sitting in her kitchen talking to her about the goings on in my life when I was younger and she was always so interested. She was one of the happiest and earnest figures in our community and it was a privilege knowing her. Having moved away from Brockville more than 20 years ago I still of her fondly as she is intertwined in many memories of my youth. She raised an amazing family and was a pillar in the community. My fondest wishes go out to her family during this time. Your mother, grandmother, aunt etc was a truly amazing woman. Sincerely, Sarah Chadwick (nee Lewis of 466 King St. W. Brockville)

Dear Donna, Christine, Steve & Families. Kate has been such a delight to know all these years. We would often stop & visit awhile when we met. She was always happy & upbeat. Kate was one of those persons who just by seeing her brightened my life. I can still see her & Frank making their daily walks downtown greeting folks along the way. I’ll meet as her wonderful smile & hugs. Please know I thought the world of her & her wonderful sense of humour. Sincere condolences to all of you Hugs Linda Eyre
